A Thanksgiving verse
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the
power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head
Wealth and honor come from you; you are the
ruler of all things.
In your hands are
strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.
our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious
Freedom from Want -
One of the four illustrations in the Norman Rockwell's
series The Four Freedoms, was inspired by Franklin
Roosevelt's speech to congress in January of 1941, and
published in the Saturday Evening Post in March
1943. While not Rockwell's intention, this image
soon (mistakenly) became an icon that represented the
typical American Thanksgiving feast. Roosevelt
delivered his speech in the months that were inevitably
leading up to war and what would be difficult times for
our nation. Once again we find ourselves in a
difficult time, yet we can rely on the same provider
that sustained our parents and grandparents and our
nation through World War II.
Trisha and I see
first-hand the poverty and want in countries that have
abandoned the King or where He has never been
worshiped. Let's pray more fervently than ever
that we as individuals, families and as a people return
to the one who has blessed us so mightily.
prayer is that you and yours have a very happy and
thankful Thanksgiving holiday.
|Post-script: Perhaps a better
illustration to represent what our attitude should be on
this wonderful holiday is this Rockwell illustration
titled "Giving Thanks".|
